Old Peculier is a great example of "old ale," a style of slightly stronger, malty English ale that you can think of as the lower-ABV ancestor of barleywine. You'll get a lot of those same rich, dark flavors as a barleywine without the extra body or booze, making this an awesome everyday drinker. Pouring a beautiful dark ruby color with a fluffy, slightly hoppy head that sticks around a while, Old Peculier gives big notes of malt and dark fruit, a little reminiscent of treacle tart or mince pie without ever getting overly sweet. Relatively light in the body for a dark ale, this is a good old-fashioned Northumbrian brew meant to be enjoyed with a warm meal or to cool off after a long day of labor, so if you're normally a fan of Modelo Negra or Sam Adams Boston Lager, definitely give this one a try!
